Job Description

Responsibilities

The Emergency Department (ED) Technician provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role supports orthopedic procedures as delegated by Emergency Department or Orthopedic physicians, RN Team Leads, and other healthcare team members.

Key duties include:

  • Obtaining and documenting vital signs and assisting with triage assessments under RN supervision.

  • Performing 12-lead EKGs.

  • Applying orthopedic devices such as traction, OCL splints, and other immobilization tools.

  • Educating patients on orthopedic device use, including crutch training.

  • Assisting with wound care, ENT procedures, orthopedic interventions, eye/ear irrigations, suture/staple removal, Foley leg bag applications, cervical spine immobilization, and bladder scanning.

  • Supporting supply management, stocking, and maintenance for Emergency Department clinical areas.

  • Assisting with orientation, training, and quality assurance initiatives within the department.

  • Communicating patient data, delegated tasks, and care needs effectively.

  • Demonstrating understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and applying age-appropriate care.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of one year of patient care experience required; prior experience in an emergency department setting preferred.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to fast-paced, unpredictable clinical environments.

  • Flexible availability including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire, valid for at least 90 days past the start date; ongoing BLS competency must be maintained.

  • Required Credential:

    • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification through the Arizona Department of Health Services OR

    • Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) credential through the Arizona Board of Nursing.
