The Emergency Department (ED) Technician provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role supports orthopedic procedures as delegated by Emergency Department or Orthopedic physicians, RN Team Leads, and other healthcare team members.
Key duties include:
Obtaining and documenting vital signs and assisting with triage assessments under RN supervision.
Performing 12-lead EKGs.
Applying orthopedic devices such as traction, OCL splints, and other immobilization tools.
Educating patients on orthopedic device use, including crutch training.
Assisting with wound care, ENT procedures, orthopedic interventions, eye/ear irrigations, suture/staple removal, Foley leg bag applications, cervical spine immobilization, and bladder scanning.
Supporting supply management, stocking, and maintenance for Emergency Department clinical areas.
Assisting with orientation, training, and quality assurance initiatives within the department.
Communicating patient data, delegated tasks, and care needs effectively.
Demonstrating understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and applying age-appropriate care.
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of one year of patient care experience required; prior experience in an emergency department setting preferred.
Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to fast-paced, unpredictable clinical environments.
Flexible availability including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire, valid for at least 90 days past the start date; ongoing BLS competency must be maintained.
Required Credential:
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification through the Arizona Department of Health Services OR
Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) credential through the Arizona Board of Nursing.
