Job Description

Phoenix Children’s is currently seeking a full-time Circulating Nurse for our Main Operating Room in Phoenix. In this role, you’ll work alongside top surgeons, surgical techs, radiologists, and fellow nurses in a collaborative, high-performing environment. As a Level I Trauma Center, we care for surgical patients across a wide range of specialties including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiac, Transplant, ENT, Plastics, and Urology. The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of OR experience. Prior experience in a Level I Trauma setting and CNOR certification are preferred.

Position Summary:

This role involves working in close collaboration with the healthcare team, patients, and their families to deliver age-appropriate, evidence-based nursing care that aligns with individualized care plans, hospital standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts comprehensive nursing assessments tailored to the patient’s age and condition, addressing physical, psychological, social, developmental, and educational needs to determine alignment with the treatment plan in accordance with unit policies and guidelines. Performs ongoing assessments of both patients and families, identifying deviations from expected diagnoses.
  • Continuously monitors patient responses to care, education, and discharge plans. Accurately documents progress in medical records and communicates findings with the healthcare team and families to ensure clear understanding and timely updates on the patient’s condition and needs.
  • Actively contributes to the team’s efforts by completing tasks within established protocols, ensuring adherence to medication management, documentation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides orientation to patients and families regarding unit procedures, hospital systems, and expectations to support understanding and compliance.
  • Oversees the care activities of assigned staff, delegating responsibilities based on individual competencies. Offers feedback and evaluates care delivery to maintain safety, infection control, and quality standards, while preserving confidentiality.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team and family members to develop and implement individualized care plans, ensuring coordinated efforts and ongoing communication. Participates in patient rounds and care conferences as needed.
  • Encourages a supportive learning environment by modeling patient-centered care and best practices. Provides mentorship, education, and guidance to students and new staff through clinical instruction and knowledge sharing.
  • Performs additional job-related tasks as assigned to support patient care and unit operations.
